The Employment Based Immigration section explains how they will make a task force to prevent illegal workers from being exploited. I don't see anything for legal EB workers other than this 5 year thing which will start counting after this law is passed. :mad:
It says 5 years preceding from the date this law is enacted. Does this not mean that they will look 5 years back from the date this law is enacted?
Also i do not see them say it is for illegals only...
I do not think they would make it easier for illegals than legal residents.
I am not very optimistic about this . But i would definately like to see this pass.

Nothing significant is expected from this speech. Most politicians repeat the same 3 things- Secure our borders, provide path to citizenship to millions and welcome best and the brightest. The real question is when they will do the real work on immigration. There have been some discussions on administrative fixes on immigration. However some of these fixes would politically harm democrats in the upcoming elections.
Only when the democratic party weakens things can move forward for the skilled (EB- GC ) folks. Democratic party is never for skilled immigratiion, it is all for illegal masses only.

If you and your spouse have good jobs here and children are in school....moving back to support your parents may not be so feasible both economically and also for many other reasons. If you don't have useful and helpful suggestions to relieve the problem then please refrain from making attacks and have respect for others. you don't fully know or understand the person's circumstances

Maybe we should tell NRA that lot of skilled immigrants will buy guns once they have GCs. That could be the fastest way for us to get some lobbying money. It could work faster then the message on "buying houses".
I have lived in Nevada before. I think in that state and many other western states (where guns laws are more liberal) you have to have passport, I-94 and utility bills proving you have lived in NV for 6 months. That's it. You don't need hunting license to get a gun license.
Here is the biggest irony:
IN order to own a gun, FBI needs only 2 days to check your background.
IN order to get 485 approved, FBI takes months or years to do a background check.
I guess green-card is a more lethal weapon than a handgun.

I think we should call and tell them that highly skilled legal immigrants are working for long time and the jobs are granted because there is a shortage of highly skilled immigrants in US. We are waiting just because of the inefficiency of USCIS.

Thanks nrk. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I was current for two months in 2008 but did not get. So hoping for the best this time but again I would not be surprised if I don't get it, especially looking at USCIS/DOS works.

yes, this whole debate is useless anyway, since there's no meaning to those dates, maybe just for extreme cases, that are delayed even beyond the usual unreasonable delay.
If you manage to get your employer to get a SR open for you on the I140, chances are, you'll get your I140 approved before you'll get any response to the SR, since USCIS takes that ridiculous 45 business days to respond.
SR are next to useless , If you ever expereince SR , you will never think about it again

As long as the employer/employee relationship exists, an H-1B alien is still in status. An H-1B alien may work in full or part-time employment and remain in status. An H-1B alien may also be on vacation, sick/maternity/paternity leave, on strike, or otherwise inactive without affecting his or her status.

I agree with nixstor. I have my own template but not my personal story. It mostly highlights IV and its mission; plight of skilled legal-immigrants and in turn US' and also seek for some help from the media.
I recommend every one writing their own words rather than doing the copy/paste. If I were to recieve 10 emails with exactly the same content, it might make me feel like some ONE just sent 10 diff emails. IMHO, Its a good idea to write the gist of the story in your own words. Save it and use it for all the people in the media.
