I efiled the EAD application and in the confirmation page, I got instructions to mail supporting documents to NSC. I mailed copy of the efiled receipt, copy of current EAD card which expired end of July 2010 and a copy of I-485 receipt.
My question is - are things different for efiled applications?
My EAD is expiring end of july this year. I did the same things you mentioned above.

I actually agree with logiclife. Your worth = how you perform. I have a Ph.D. and I am a post-doc in a lab, but my salary depends on how I perform. If someone with 6 months of NIIT can do what the job needs great. But, and this is a big but, whether you like it or not, US immigration policy is going to favor those who got degrees from the US . So Ron Hiras will have their way, and something will be worked out for those with US degrees. IEEE has tons of "well-respected" studies which prove that graduate studies improve the person's worth for an organization. Brb2 is also perfectly correct in that they fit in better in the US work culture, and hence have what the US industry needs. It is also true that if the need arises, those with US degrees can find employment with non-consulting firms; most non-US educated people however need these desi consultants.
It is false. US employers need good skilled workers. The only way they used to get people in earlier days was through students who come and graduate. But after the body shopping infracture was built, they started getting people through body shops.
Body shops are like feeder agents that feed foreign skilled workers in the system.
As per super specialization in US degrees, and Phds etc...It is true that some jobs need these skills and these kind of jobs are always available to people with those skills.
But most IT jobs at an entry level or a junior or a mid level programmer does not require that you have a US degree or a Masters or a Phd, and these are the kind of jobs that get filled by H1bs without US Master's.
In fact if a job requires a Phd and if they did not find a qualified US worker for that job, the job will be open for a PhD as long as the degree from a foreign univ gets evaluated and candidate is good.
In the days where there was no body shopping infrastructure was not there, businesses were forced to take MS grads from US univs just because they were accessible and tghere was no concept of outsourcing.
But these days, every company is having a outsourcing or offshoring model so these jobs that can be outsourced will always be outsourced. If the outsourcable jobs are to be kept in US, then skills must be insourced.
So, if you think US educated or MS people have more advantage - you are just fooling yourself.
The issue here is the distribution of visas and quota restrictions and not US educated or non US educated.

Such people come running to IV if they get a denial/ NOID and lose hope. -i don't think it is frustration.
I don't think IV is doing anything wrong. I am aware of IV only doing 'some' thing for EB2.
But lot people take IV as one forum (not org) to discuss their matters. Lot of people come into IV as an alternative to other forums - t r a c k i t t , lawyers forums etc. They might not believe in what is IV doing for 'faster GCs' . IV should either
a) try to make them believe in them
b) or leave them alone & let use the forums
c) or allow only people - who believe in IV.
If you keep going to say 20k people are members & everyone should donate - then it is wrong.
As per pappu - when people come running to IV & blah. blah... .... then ask them for donation if their case gets resolved.. did pappu try to reach out to them for donations.
I don't want to argue - but respect everyone's belief.
Pappu belief in IV does not equal to 'everyone's belief in IV' - it is simple as that.
Also - what is history between t t it & IV? I posted i-485 thread on t t it - no one deleted it - i think there are not many people over there - who believe in it.
Shows arrogance or frustration? Flip side of the same coin!
IV really needs people from KY, KS, TN, UT, AL, CO, AR - please help convince a friend or family from these states. Thanks.

Anything with the legislative effort aka unused visa recapture will not happen in this political environment.
My only question to the EB3I is,
Do you want to wait until the visa recapture, when ever it happens or will it ever?. More-over this has been taken up by many people in this forum and fizzled. To add more, do you know what will happen when un-used visas are recaptured ? Will it benefit EB3I or will it be given to EB2 just like the spill over. Would you do something right now to atleast get some short term relief to EB3I ?
I am here in this thread to understand what we can do for EB3I immediately. I presented an option when somebody asked in this thread. If you want to take it or leave it, its up to you to decide.
nyte_crawler I gave u green because I really appreciate you keeping the argument civilized even though we both differ in our ideas. Now just to take things a little further. You have pointed me that I am arguing to keep spill over as it is (in favour of EB2) because that will help me. I would argue the same that when you say immediate help for EB3 I feel that is because that will help your case. Tell me how does it help Eb3 with PD 2004 and further. Rather it would be in their interest to cross port to EB2 since they directly become current rather than wait for spill over to reach their PD which is good 3-4 years away. So my argument is there are three interest groups here
1) EB2
2) Eb3 prior to 2004
3) Eb3 2004 onwards.

It was a memorable trip indeed! 3 weeks before, I thought Houston to DC was a long shot. I kept reading the IV forums and saw the energy built up. Then I decided, I should definitely do something from my part even if I dont attend the Rally. I said to myself, enough, I am going to announce in the Texas thread that I am willing to volunteer for the publicity work in Houston during the long weekend. Thats when I got a chance to talk to Texanmom. We had a conversation for about 40 minutes and once I finishing talking to her over the phone my position changed from No way to let me try to convince my friends and if I have company, I will go. I can always talk to my Boss later about taking a day off. Once I decided that, I kept calling all my friends in Houston. Sadly, I could not motivate people to buy tickets and fly with me to DC. My wife, then told me, if you want to go, you should go, dont wait for your friends.
I am glad, I took that decision. The whole trip to DC was very memorable indeed. There were 3 of us in the same flight jayram123, Texanmom and myself. We had a volunteer (IV handle ?? if you are reading this please tell me your IV Handle!), who picked us up and we all stayed in a hotel. Thanks for all your hospitality! We left very early and reached the location by 7:15 in the morning. It felt good to work with everyone and make the necessary preparation before the crowd started pouring in.
Early in the morning, GSC999 gave us a quick announcement session telling us what we need to do as volunteers and what was the plan. GSC999 - you energy was contagious. I was all ready and excited once I heard you talking about our plan for the day.
On of my best moment of the trip was handing out water bottles to all the participants who were standing besides the road showing their banners. This happened just before the actual Rally began. It was a nice feeling making all the folks comfortable and giving them water while they were all standing there for more than an hour flaunting their signs to the cars on the road. I was helping another volunteer in this effort and later found that he is from Houston too and is part of IV Core (please PM me your id if you are reading this). It felt so good that all of us were helping each other for our common cause.
I had one person ask me where can we find the nametag stickers which we give to the volunteers. I searched for a long time and then told that person that I will find it for him. Then I got busy with some other work. Only later I realized that it was not some other volunteer who had requested the nametags from me but it was Mr. Pappu himself! Pappu you are a very humble man!
A special thanks to the person who was pulling the cart with 2 packs of water bottles all along the Rally and distributing water to all the people who were walking in the Rallly. I tried moving that cart and found that it was TOO Heavy and decided to work on some other volunteering effort. But you did it. Thanks!
Also, the person who sang the National Anthem did a wonderful job! All the speeches were very nice too! The sound system arrangement was very professional. The Rally Marshals did a fabulous job and everything went exactly as planned. The arrangements made by the Cops with their cars motorbikes and bicycles was very impressive.
In all, it was great trip from Houston to DC. Thanks to jayram123 too who took care of all the travel logistics. I did not have a clue about the routes or the trains etc and was completely relying on him. Hoping to keep in touch with the Houston IV team and help with more efforts till all our goals are achieved.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered and participated in the Rally. I wanted to write a lot more and mention a lot of names, only if I had noted down their IV handles! Moreover I have to catch some sleep now. Its been a very looong day yesterday.

One of IVs priorities has been to have a uniform skills based system like other developed countries Eg. Canada.
members are welcome to join in that initiative as weel and suggest ideas.
I'm actually preparing a doc for a way to fairly convert people from EB to a points based skills system. This would also eliminate country based quotas as a side effect.
The CIR in 2007 had a similar proposal, but they did not compensate those already in EB queues.

so, let's say my date becomes current in June.
And then I get a call from USCIS asking me if I prefer in store pick up or home delivery ?
What do you guys suggest , should I opt for instore pick up ;) ?
(as far as they do not hand me a rain check when I reach there...)
last time they asked me this (as mentioned last year on this forum) I said whatever you please and they decided not to complete my order....

I can't stop thinking of our efforts in DC. As I have already posted, it was a tremendous experience being a part of such campaign. I came upon this thread of adding more members to IV and from what I read, it was successful largely. IV has increased members from 10,000 to over 40,000 since this thread was started.
I am bringing back this thread again, asking our members to get more involved in their state chapters and to encourage our current membership to be more active in the forums and action items. We, who participated in the DC event, can hold conference calls (if our members are separated widely across the state) or meet in local libraries (if many of our members are in the same city) and talk of our experience in DC and what needs to be done ahead.
Fellow participants, please do come up with suggestions on how to keep the momentum going.........

May be a gentle reminder about contributions in other topics would help.
How sad it is that we don't get support from our own.
May be once anyone's queries get answered about any topic, a friendly reminder like "If you are satisfied with the response, please contribute to IV to help our cause". I hope the members don't make us stoop to this level.

Various reasons...time...schedule...other obligations etc...lack of readily available information on IV as an organisation or state chapter....too many steps to do simple things like joining the state chapter :)
ya some of the reasons seem ridiculous...but even small things easily hinder people who already have a busy life. They create mental barriers...where such tasks are just postponed rather than handled in an instant.
I am trying to get more of IV core members to take these small things seriously and have even offered to help in this regard.
I do agree with some of your points. We could do with a marketing consultant for the website, etc
Many on core are working almost all their waking hours, and simply don't have time.
But you know what the funny thing is? No one is willing to donate for these items.
We are even $28,000 short for critical things like Advocacy days.
People couldn't even collect a few thousand dollars for advertising on a single website about IV.
We don't have a paid sales person or PR person.
Most people aren't aware of realities.

There is an advantage to filing through CP when USCIS is slow to process applications. According to statistics this has been the case for last 10 years with USCIS.
CP approvals are pretty fast and when you apply they do not wait till the dates to become current, NVC process the application to the point where the only thing it needs is a visa number.
For example April 1st when an applicants PD is current NVC will request a visa number for the applicant and any derivative applicants around the 10th of April (this is stadard practice). Then typically in the next 60 days (May or June in this case) schedule the interview. You get the visa after successful interview.
We completed package 3 already last August and sent the forms together with ORIGINAL certificates to the NVC as requested. They also asked for the visa fees at that time which we also paid. So I guess we already have visa numbers ?
Our sponsor company in the US is waiting since almost 3 years for my husband to start working for him. I think we're lucky that he's willing to wait so long and didn't give up at some point during this whole process ?

Saw this letter to editor in Khabar. Hope this helps
Good Work, Houston Consulate!
Recently Ive read letters from Khabar readers complaining about the service and performance at the Indian Consulate in Houston, Texas. So, when I found out that the Consulate had cancelled (on a whim, it appeared!) publicly announced visa camps in the Atlanta area, I feared the worst. Canceling publicly announced visa camps and not even informing the Indian media in the area or the very organizations that help administer them seemed like the height of disregard by the Consulate for their clients.
The next day I learnt that the Consulate had outsourced the visa processing service to a professional company. Not knowing what to make of it, I was still nervous as I had less than a month to go (I was counting on the visa camp that got cancelled). Thankfully, my experience turned 180 degrees when I began my application process from the link provided on the Consulates website for their visa services contractor.
After filling out the form online, the system gave me an ID #. I sent my form and documents by overnight delivery and kept my UPS tracking number handy?just in case! To my surprise, the very next day I received an email acknowledging receipt of the application and an assurance that itd be processed right away. I was still not convinced that it could be going so smoothly, so the next day I went to the link they sent me to track the progress of my application, and sure enough there were fresh updates on it informing me the status of the application. Exactly a week from the day I mailed the application, I received another email saying my passport/visa had been dispatched back to me, along with the shipping companys tracking number.
I was thrilled with the speed and professionalism of the whole process and would like to compliment the Consulate in taking this most effective step of partnering with a quality visa service provider.

Hey guys, I am July 2007 filer with June 2007 PD. The only times I saw LUD change in my cases were during first FP notice in Jan 2008, and second during May 09 when I used AP for re-entry.
Does pre-adjudication result in any LUDs, is anyone else in the same boat who didn't have any LUDs other than for FP or AP use?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$GOOD MORNING GC$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Deadline = April 30th, 2011
Goal = 5000 votes on survey (see I-485 filing w/o current PD thread) and momentum to continue with this campaign. The survey is a platform to gather and push for launching action items. Based on response by 04/30/2011 - IV will decide whether to even proceed with initiative or not.
Actions - 1) Vote on survey.
2)Email ivcoordinator@gmail.com with PD, ph#,email & subject "I485 filing impacted,
3)Print/Circulate Fliers and spread FB, wiki link (see "support thread")
This is a supporting thread to the "Want to File I-485 without Current Priority Date? Gather here" thread started by pappu.
As suggested by pappu/starsun, this supporting thread provides impacted members with additional information and tools to help the initiative.
Visit Immigration Voice Wiki (http://immigrationvoice.org/wiki/index.php/Employment_Based_Green_Card#Process_.28EB1.2C_EB2. 2C_and_EB3.29) - for overview of Employment Based - Green Card process
Visit I485 Filing w/o current PD Wiki (http://immigrationvoice.org/wiki/index.php/Current_Grass-Roots_Initiative_-_I-485_Filing_without_Current_Priority_Date) - for overview of this initiative
As pappu stated in the first post of the above referenced thread - some of the ongoing efforts include finding how many IV members would get benefit from such a provision and get basic details such as username/Priority Date of impacted members. Future action items might include drafting documents and letters to support this provision. There maybe actions such as sending emails etc. However we would not be able to open a public action item unless we can have thousands of our members willing to participate in a grassroots action item. This survey intends to understand the needs of our membership for this provision and collect grassroots information.
The fact is we have a dedicated group of volunteers (and we need more) who have been trying their best to spread the message about this initiative so that a strong grass-roots support can be created leading up to launch of the public action items. So far we have around 1100 people who have responded. Based on quick calculations carried out using PERM data, it is estimated that there are at least 60K-70K EB applicants waiting to file I-485/EAD/AP (this is a very conservative estimate..the actual number could be much more). Grass-roots initiatives require time and patience and we request maximum number of impacted folks to participate actively.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What can you do to participate?
1) Vote on the poll/survey created by Pappu.

Deadline = April 30th, 2011

All that IV wants you to do is contribute atleast $20 bucks, and you dont have to do anything else. Just think of this..the core team might have already spent hundreds of dollars, and VALUABLE QUALITY time talking to people in D.C, organizing meetings etc at the cost of their personal time thay they could have spent with their families and loved ones. You dont have to go that far, just spend 5 minutes to sign up for recurring contributions, and who knows IV might be able to get something that might give you more FREEDOM for you to say good bye to those lousy employers, and live peacefully!
Come on guys, lets contribute generously for our OWN FUTURE!!!

the other trend I've seen lately people join here, post a question specific to their H1 or GC problem, get the answer and run as fast as possible !
I'm going to start asking such people if they have signed up for "recurring contribution" or if they have contributed at all?
they are saving attorney consulting fees :) bingo !
